Subject: VASH (Veterans Affairs Supporting Housing) Vouchers - S2 Communities - Urgent! Please Read
Importance: High
Happy, happy FriYAY S2 Family,
I am recirculating this e-mail regarding VASH Vouchers, as I have received a few support tickets on this topic.
- Please print and read the below with your entire team. The original email has been housed in our Resource Folder -
VASH Vouchers since it was distributed in 2019.
- What does this mean? It means, that we will accept a VASH (Veterans Assistance Supporting Housing) voucher at all our S2 communities.
- However, the housing voucher value must meet that of our in-place rent amount as posted by LRO. And, the individual(s) would have to meet our credit, criminal and rental verification as would any other applicant.
- One major point we need to be aware of is this: If you do not know the answer regarding a Fair Housing question, never, ever put them on hold. Tell the prospect ‘YES’ and get them into our offices.
- And we’ll get any answers you need after you’ve disconnected the call.
- Please also see the attached Service Animal email that I sent to our teams on how to reply to a Service Animal or Emotional Service Animal question(s). The same response would be used for a VASH or Section 8 Voucher.
Please find a brief step of tasks that must be completed when an applicant applies for an apartment with a VASH Voucher.
- The voucher recipient should complete an application just like everyone else.
- All fees will need to be collected like any other applicant.
- Applicant will provide you with a copy of their voucher.
- Our team should reach out to the applicant's caseworker as there is an online form that needs to be filled out on our end.
- The unit will be inspected by the caseworker and will need to pass an inspection.
- If the applicant is qualified and the caseworker approves the unit and rate, they will provide a contract and request a copy of the lease.
- The main thing is to keep in contact with the applicant and especially with the caseworker as the caseworker will provide all direction needed.
- Once we have the approval AND we have the signed HAP Contract, we can allow the resident to move-in.
